Damon Kowarsky studied
printmaking at the Victorian College of the Arts and Glasgow School of
Art and Advanced Figure Drawing with Godwin Bradbeer at RMIT.
Since graduating in 2000 he has exhibited regularly in Australia and
abroad and worked as a scientific, courtroom, and archaeological
illustrator. This last activity took him to the western deserts of Egypt
where he assisted on a dig for the Dakhleh Oasis Project.
Kowarsky has travelled extensively in North Africa, West and South Asia,
Europe, the Middle East and Mexico. The unique and very distinctive
architecture of these regions and the colours of sky and earth inspire
much of his work.
In 2007 he taught drawing at Beaconhouse National University Lahore and
studied miniature painting under Murad Mumtaz and Mahreen Zuberi. In
February this year he returned to Pakistan to conduct a printmaking
workshop at Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture and hold a very
successful solo exhibition at Alhamra Art Gallery Lahore.
Kowarsky has recently returned to Australia from travels in Pakistan,
Iran and Uzbekistan. He is currently working on a series of works
inspired by his experiences in these countries for exhibitions in
Australia and internationally.
